American Counseling Association  (ACA) -mission is promoting the development of professional counselors, advancing the counseling profession, and using the profession and practice of counseling to promote respect for human dignity and diversity.

American Psychological Association (APA) - mission is  to advance the creation, communication and application of psychological knowledge to benefit society and improve people’s lives.

American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC) -  purpose to equip clinical, pastoral, and lay care-givers with Biblical truth and psycho-social insights that ministers to hurting persons and helps them move to personal wholeness, interpersonal competence, mental stability, and spiritual maturity.

Christian Association for Psychological Studies (CAPS) - purpose to promote understanding of the relationship between Christianity and the behavioral sciences at both the clinical/counseling and the theoretical/research levels

American Mental Health Counselors Association (AMHCA) - national organization exclusively for mental health counselors purposing to enhance the profession through licensing, advocacy, education and professional development - includes links to state boards for counselor certification and licensure.

American School Counselor Association (ASCA) - organization globally supporting the professional development, publications and other resources, research and advocacy for the school counselor profession.

The American Association for Marriage and Family Therapy (AAMFT) - represents the professional interests of marriage therapist though out the US, Canada and abroad, by facilitating research, theory development and education, and setting standards for graduate education and training, clinical supervision, professional ethics and the clinical practice of marriage and family therapy.

American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT) - not-for-profit interdisciplinary organization of professionals including sexuality educators, sexuality counselors and sex therapists, physicians, nurses, social workers, psychologists, allied health professionals, clergy members, lawyers, sociologists, marriage and family couserlors and therapists, family planning specialists and researches, and students in the relevant disciplines whose purpose is to pomote understanding of human sexuality and health sexual behavior.

American Art Therapy Association (AATA) sets standards of prefessional competence to develops and promotes knowledge in the field of art therapy.

American Association of Pastoral Counselors (AAPC) -  non-sectarian organization setting standards for certified mental health professionals who have had in-depth religious and/or theological training.

American College Counseling Association (ACCA) - mission is to support and enhance practice of college counseling, promoting ethical and responsible practices, encouraging communicatin and exchange among college counselors.

Association for Counselor Education and Supervision (ACES) - a division of the ACA charged with enhancing practice of professional counseling through the promotion of efective counselor education and supervision.

Association for Gay, Lesbian and Bisexual Issues in Counseling (AGLBIC) - mission is to promote greater awareness and understanding of gay, lesbian, bixesual and transgender issues among the counseling profession.

American Music Therapy Association (AMTA) - organization is concerned with advancement of public awareness of the benefits of music therapy and increasing access to quality music therapy services in a rapidly changing world.

American Society of Group Psychotherapy and Psychodrama (ASGPP) - purposes to foster the national and international cooperation among all who are concerned with the theory and practice of psychodrama, sociometry, and group psychotherapy.

Center for Credentialing & Educations is a corporate affiliate of the National Board for Certified Counselors offering four certifications for those who have met the standards in their respective specialities:

  Approved Clinical Supervisor (ACS) -competencies and national standards for supervisors

   Distance Credential Counselor (DDC) -  best counseling practices in technology assisted delivery

   Distance Credential Faciltator (DFC) -  career and life coaching, in addition to other specialities

   Global Career Development Facilitator (GCDF) -

International Association of Marital and Family Counselors (IAMFC)  a division of ACA, promoting excellence in the practice of couples and family counseling, by embraces and affirming the worth and dignity of all families and individuals.

Illinois Counseling Association (ICA) - purpose to enhance the quality of life in society by promoting the development of professional counselors, advancing the counseling profession, and using the profession and practice of counseling to promote respect for human dignity and diversity.

Illinois Mental Health Counselors Association (IMHCA) - goal is to provide information on a variety of issues important to Illinois mental health counselors and to assist counselors to understand the licensing process.

The Association for Addiction Professionals (NAADAC) - "Mission is to lead, unify, and empower addiction focused professionals to achieve excellence through education, advocacy, knowledge, standards of practice, ethics, professional development and research."

National Board for Certified Clinical Hypnotherapists (NBCCH)  - an educational, scientific, and professional organization dedicated to professionalizing the mental health specialty of hypnotherapy

National Association of Forensic Counselors (NAFC) - organizational mission is to promote competency and training among persons working with criminal offenders.

National Association of Nouthetic Counselors (NANC) - first and foremost a certifying organization of Christian pastors and layman concerned with the promotion of biblical counseling.

National Association for Play Therapy (APT) -advances play therapy, the means by which licensed mental health professionals use developmentally appropriate play-based treatments to better communicate with and help clients, particuarly children.

National Career Development Association (NCDA) -  a division of the ACA, whose mission  is to promote the career development of all people over the life span.

National Christian Counselors Association (NCCA) - a non-profit, professional organization that trains, certifies, and licenses Christian counselors. The Association includes ministers, Christian counselors, testing specialists, medical doctors, attorneys, and educators.
