Changes coming to Rolfing

Below is the first in a planned series of video updates on changes to the Rolfing building.  Below the video is a transcript - sort of (it is what I would have said had I been reading the script).  Hope you enjoy.

Hi my name is Matt Ostercamp and I’m the Head of Technical Services here in the library.  We are excited to announce that the upper floor of the library is getting painted and much of it is getting new flooring as well.

Although we have yet to see the final paint colors we’ve been told that they won’t be blue!  I’ll be sure to share more with you as we learn about it.

The painting is scheduled to start on Dec. 7th and the flooring will be going in after the end of the semester.  We know this is a busy time for most of you and will try to keep out of your way as much as possible.  I’ll also be posting video updates on our website to inform you of our progress and changes in our building.

One change to look for soon is the moving of our current periodical collection from the front of the library.  We will be moving them back next to the bound periodicals.  You may have already noticed our staff hard at work moving and dusting tons of journals.  I’ll show you pictures of the new current periodical area after it moves.

Moving the periodicals is a first step in implementing a new master plan for our library space.  More information on the plan will also be forthcoming but for right now we have a lot of work to do.

Thanks for watching, Matt

Postscript - Rebekah Hall (the usual Thinc blogger) has been doing a lot of work on the master plan for the library amongst other tasks so the blogging has slowed for the time being.

Do our lives lift up His name?

I'm going through a study on many of the names of God. I'm wrestling with what it means to apply this knowledge of these various names that identify the character, abilities, and relationship between who He is and who we are. So far, a few names that have really caught my attention are Adonai Yahweh (Sovereign Lord), Rav-Chesed (Abounding in Love), and Melek Yahweh Tsabaot (King Lord of Hosts).

False starts

There have been a couple of topics I've been wanting to mention this week on the blog, but they haven't evolved into fully developed thoughts to share. Here's what I have as is:

Booksale coverage

I've missed the blog! While I was preparing for the booksale, I didn't have much time to keep up on it. There were several new things I wanted to try out this year and I definitely think it was worth experimenting, but starting from scratch takes time! We received positive feedback about having the booksale at the front of the library. I was hoping that would give the sale more exposure and encourage increased browsing as students enter and leave the library. We also set up shelving units for easier access to the books.

Joy found in Him alone

“Above all things see to it that your souls are happy in the Lord. Whatever be done in the way of giving up or self-denial or deadness to the world should result from the joy we have in God.”--George Mueller

'Find rest, O my soul, in God alone; my hope comes from him. He alone is my rock and my salvation; he is my fortress, I will not be shaken.'--Psalm 62:5-6

Gospel according to WIRED magazine

This is entry 4 in a series of reflections on technology.

I look forward to the arrival of WIRED magazine each month and reading about the latest high tech toys and the travails of the geek world.  However as the title of this post suggest, I find more than that in WIRED.  There is a meta-narrative that accompanies our culture's fascination with technology that can easily become an alternative to the redemption story in scripture.
