Booksale coverage
I've missed the blog! While I was preparing for the booksale, I didn't have much time to keep up on it. There were several new things I wanted to try out this year and I definitely think it was worth experimenting, but starting from scratch takes time! We received positive feedback about having the booksale at the front of the library. I was hoping that would give the sale more exposure and encourage increased browsing as students enter and leave the library. We also set up shelving units for easier access to the books. That required a significant amount of lugging large metal pieces upstairs to set up the frameworks. I am indebted to many full-time and part-time staff who helped out with that aspect of the project! We offered students coffee and cookies on the first two days. This appeared to be well-received. It was fun to make that available and to see folks pleasantly surprised that it was a free service. Again, we had a few great staff members made every effort to keep up with the coffee demand! Thank you! Thank you!
We do have a short video clip of the booksale. Feel free to check it out! (If you are featured in the video and do not want to be included, please contact Rebecca and we can edit it for you!)
Meanwhile, as all these plans were underway and unfolding, the library has also been busy trying to address much needed questions and concerns about physical building improvements. The president is making every effort to provide an opportunity for the library to receive some new paint and carpeting on the first floor. Library staff are working together to consider how to map out floor plans and which areas of the library need the most urgent attention as funds become available over the next few years. It takes a lot of planning and discussion to think through the big picture questions about the mission/vision of a library and then further to flesh out what that means for different spaces and how to furnish those spaces. I'm excited about change on the horizon and I'm prayerful that the results will be both beautiful and very functional for you all, the people who spend time here.
Lord willing, I'll be back to blogging more regularly again! As always, your thoughts and comments are welcome!
