What is my username and password?
The first time you log in to TrinCat or I-Share, you will need to create a new account. You can choose any username and password you want. (Be sure to pick ones you will remember.) Note: Your borrower ID or barcode number is your 6-digit student ID number on your ID card.
If you forgot your username and password, you can reset your password. Or you can just create a new username and password (you can have multiple usernames and passwords for one account).
Why am I having problems creating an account?
Some browsers such as Internet Explorer have problems. Try using Firefox instead. (You can download it for free here.)
You can also contact Circulation to make sure you are in the system and that there aren't any problems: circ@tiu.edu or (847)317-4002.
Why am I blocked from requesting?
If you are unable to request books, check the "blocks" area in your account. This will give you more information about the problem. Here are the most common reasons you may be blocked:
- You requested 3 books from the Trinity library. Rolfing Library has a limit of 3 books that you can request be pulled from our shelves and placed on hold for you. Unfortunately, when you reach the 3-book limit for Trinity, this also blocks you from requesting I-Share books from other libraries. (Normally there is no limit for I-Share requests.) To get around this, you can cancel one of your requests from Trinity, place your I-Share requests, and then resubmit the Trinity Library request.
- Your account has expired. To renew your account, contact the Circulation Desk at (847)317-4002 or circ@tiu.edu.
- You have fines of more than $5. Solution: pay your fines!
Contact the reference desk if you need more help.
- When searching in I-Share, click on the title of the book you want.
- Under "Location" click on the link for "Request this item." If you haven't already logged in, you will be prompted to do so. (The first time you must create a new account.)
- After logging in, click "Request" again, choose the pick-up location (leave it at selected locations) and click "request."
- If the request worked, you should get a message saying "Request submitted."
You can check your account for the status of your request. You will receive an email to your Trinity email when the book arrives. You can pick it up at the library circulation desk. Books will be held for 2 weeks.
After logging in, click on "Your Account." Then click on "Checked out items." Check the boxes for the items you want to renew and click "renew." After renewing, check the new due date. If you weren't allowed to renew, you may have reached the limit of 3 renewals per book, or there may be a hold on the item. Check-out and renewal policy
How do I have books from the shelf pulled for me?
For books from the Trinity library, you can click on the tab for "Request" to have the book pulled from the shelf and held for you. This is intended just for off-campus people, and there is a limit of 3 book requests at a time. Once you reach the limit of 3, you will be blocked from making more requests, including from I-Share. Allow a day or two for the book to be pulled. Books will be held for 2 weeks.
How do I place a hold on a checked-out book?
We recommend that you request the book through I-Share, because you will usually get it faster than if you wait for the book to be returned. If it's not available in I-Share, a librarian can place a hold for you. Contact the reference desk at (847)317-4001 or libref@tiu.edu
Most people can check out a book for one month and renew it three times. For variations, check the Trinity checkout periods for different students and faculty. Also look at the checkout policies for other I-Share libraries. These pages also have information about fines. Fines for other I-Share libraries need to be paid directly to those libraries.
What other libraries can I use?
You can visit any of the I-Share libraries and check out books using your Trinity ID card. Look at a list of I-Share libraries and a map of the libraries. There are also other libraries you can visit.
How do I find dissertations & theses?
Currently, you can only limit your search for dissertations and theses in the Classic TrinCat version. Under "Quick limit" select "Theses/Dissertations."
Check out this page for more help finding dissertations and theses, including searching at other schools.
How do I find online course reserves?
From TrinCat, click on the link for "course reserves." Select the professor, department or course (you don't necessarily need all three).
Books that say "Deerfield Reserve Desk" can be checked out at the Circulation Desk and used in the library for 2 hours.
Only articles are scanned and made available online. Look for a location of "Electronic reserve." Click on the link to get the full-text. Off-campus you may need to log in with your Groupwise username and password.
The "cite this" option will give you citations for the book in APA or MLA formats, which you can then copy and paste into your bibliography. Note: You will have to do some clean-up - the punctuation and capitalization are usually not accurate. You can also use Zotero with TrinCat or I-Share to create citations in other formats, such as TIU or Chicago styles.
